Industrial Contemporary Context

Throughout my research, it is important to acknowledge other competing companies in the industry. This will allow for a rough analysis on as to what the average audience enjoys reading. Most of the research and statistics I have gathered are from websites such as betterRetailing.com

In one article they covered 'Top 100 Magazines 2020'. Their data heavily relied on the numbers regarding circulation. The results show how 'TV Choice' came first with a estimated annual RSV of £37.2. Followed by 'What's on Tv' and 'Slimming World Magazine'. This is important to recognise because it reflects the type of interests the audience have which is Health and Parenting. Other patterns I seem to notice is the common occurrence between genres that cater dominantly for women. This includes magazines such as 'The Woman's weekly' , 'Take a Break Monthly' and 'Good Housekeeping.' Surprisingly, out of the listed magazines, I found that the one which most of my demographic will recognise is 'Cosmopolitan' which is positioned in 18th place. 

Whilst acknowledging the best selling magazines, it is useful to understand the background of what it takes to make one. Some major publishers which are know are: The National Magazine Company - known for producing 'Cosmopolitan - Esquire - Men's Health and Bauer known for Empire - Closer and Take a Break.  Some examples of magazines which are independently published is The Big Issue.

To begin with, Bauer Media Uk is an entertainment network where it offers a platform for many brands to undergo exposure. They do this by giving their 25 million consumers an insight where people are able to tell stories to the relevant audiences and advertisers so that they are delivering a cultural impact. Arguably, they have one of the most diverse brans and audiences which is important to note as my common demographic will most likely enjoy their sort of content.

Through research, I found that their company is one of the world's largest privately-owned media business with media assets all around the globe. The company was founded in Hamburg in 1875. Overall, the company has reached 200 consumers worldwide and operates in 13 countries.

In regards to magazines, they were named one of the Uk's biggest selling magazine publisher. They are most commonly known for their work of 'Women's Weekly' magazines which include 'Take a Break'.  They have also began reaching other audiences by adressing niche interests such as the growing gardening market. 

A common theme that is noticeable amongst the company is their aim for pleasing the customers interests whilst promoting under represented groups.
