Planning: Pitch
Brief 4: 3 minute music video for a love song by a fictional band/artist signed to Universal Music Group & two pages of a working website for a band/artist
Currently, i have a few ideas regarding how i would like my music video to be conducted and presented. As of right now, i am still very much open to other potential ideas that may occur during the process of developing my project and i will ensure that I make clear references to the brief and the other specified criteria’s. One majoring factor I must consider is the type of song i would have my performer do. After confirming and queries and discussing the further clarification as to what exactly the brief meant by ‘love songs’, i have settled with the song: ‘The Love Club’ by Lorde. I have chosen to compliment and enhance Lorde’s intention and purpose for writing this song by sticking to her description of what the song and narrative is really about. (include which theorist this is)
Throughout my research, i have gathered that this song specifically is referring to how she befriended a ‘bad crowd’ and her experience of being apart of it and the effect it caused on her real friends and families. She explains the lyrical meaning in an interview with New York Magazine.
To sum up, she states ‘it’s about being drawn into this crazy world, and you’re all in love.’
Furthermore, when looking at the visual aspects of the brief I would like to include both preformative and narrative aspects. My first ideas for this piece is to focus on two main subjects which are the singer and the girl who i would like to portray the role of Lorde’s experience. Throughout this video i’d like to use flashbacks in order to depict the bad and good moments. Conventionally, i will begin with a scene where there is disruption between either a family member or a partner ~ possibly a heterosexual couple. This will lead into the introduction of where the girl will run to the singer for comfort. Soon after, i will present a first glimpse at the group of people who are apart of ‘The Love Club.’
My first intention to showcase them is in a museum - gallery full of art - frozen and almost similar to the mannequin challenge. The purpose of this can connote how they are all trapped. The depiction i would also like to portray is emotionless. For chorus purposes, i believe that it will be aesthetically pleasing for them to sing without expression in order to portray a robot portrayal.
To avoid any misconceptions, i am going to include a red ribbon band as a symbolism for the group. The bracelet itself should include initial phrases like
Love is Love - intertextuality of LGBTQ members - homosexual couple
Love is Friendship - shows different forms of love - group of girls
Love is blind - interracial couples
Love is brotherhood - a pair if brothers
Then have it changed in the end sequences to show how love is not always positive.
Love is Power
Love is Toxic
Love is Deceitful
This will include flashback moments
- unfinished
